Skincare routine guide : Oily skin

 Hey there, 

so basically, this is a simple guide from my extensive research on how to build a proper skincare routine especially for oily acne prone skin aka my skin. Just thought of sharing, who knows, I might be able to help you a bit. Of course, I am no expert nor I claim to be. Just a simple sharing, something to start you with on the journey to a healthier skin.

Without further ado,

Guide

1.    Facial wash

·       Avoid alcohol / oil

·       Mild ingredients like aloe vera or tea tree oil

·       Acne prone : salicylic acid / benzoyl peroxide

·       Avoid sulphates

·       Fragrance – free

·       Twice a day

(double cleansing method, try after this one finish)

2.    Toner 

·       Avoid Alcohol (sd-40, denatured, ethanol, isopropyl) and oil free

·       Avoid sodium / ammonium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, pertrolatum

·       Avoid fragrance (citrus , rose water), menthol

·       Refreshing free and gentle for skin

·       Amino fruit acids

·       Glycolic / salcyclic acids

·       Witch hazel / aloe vera / clary sage / lavender/ tea tree / bentonite clay / activated charcoal

·       Sodium hyaluronate

·       Sodium PCA and AHA

3.    Moisturize

·       Non – comedogenic

·       Water – based or gel ( -icone) ex : dimethicone

·       Non – acnegenic

·       Antioxidants

·       Avoid paraffin, cocoa butter, oils, petrolatum, vitamin E, lanolin or natural oils.

·       Avoid creams and heavy lotions. Choose gel or light lotions

·       Optional : with spf (if choose this, opt out sunscreen)

·       SAY YES TO: salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, benzoyl peroxide, niacinamide, zinc, retinoids, sulfur, Hyaluronic acid, dimethicone
SAY NO TO: alcohol, avoid mineral oil, petroleum, petrolatum, vitamin E, lanolin or natural oils.

 

4.    Sunscreen

·       SPF 30 ^

·       Non – comedogenic

·       Light – weight, water – based / gel formula

·       Oil – free with matte finish

·       Broad – specterum (UVA and UVB protection)

·       Don’t use ones for your body

·       Fluids, gels and sprays

·       Water &  sweat resistant

·       Avoid oxybenzone and octinoxate  (which are absorbed into your skin to counteract the damage from ultraviolet light)

·       Ex : Cetaphil PRO Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30

5.    Exfoliate

·       Thrice a week, in circular motion

·       Physical (before toner), chemical (after toner)

·       Physical : Scrub (product or home remedies), need a brush

·       Chemical : Glycolic / salicylic acid (max 2%), BHA or/and BHA product

6.    Mask

·       Choose one that addresses your specific skin concern

·       Once a week

·       Sheets or home remedies

·       Clay, shea butter

7.    Targeted treatment : serums / essences / ampoules / eye cream

·       Depends on what you want to fix

 

8.    Retinol

·       [KIV] but apparently very good???

·       to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, proteins in the body that help prevent lines and skin sagging. (so for my age not yet?)

Morning(or before going out)

     i.        Face wash
    ii.        Toner
  iii.        TT
   iv.        Moisturize
    v.        Sunscreen

 

Night (home)

     i.        Face wash
    ii.        Toner
  iii.        TT
   iv.        Moisturize

 

Weekly

     i.            i.    Exfoliate
ii.    Face mask
